Feedback on Leadership

Question: "How would you describe the general condition of leadership in our society and in many churches?"

Do you have a working definition of genuine leadership from a Christian perspective?

(I am taking four classes at the Baptist College of Florida. This question was discussed in one of the classes. I would like feedback from some commenters here. Thank you.)

Just a few thoughts here.

I think the leadership in the SBC (and therefore the SBC) is only as good as its theological/doctrinal underpinings. I have thought for a long time that there is something wrong and that it was the leadership. I was pretty happy that a lot of it was thrown out during the resurgence and a newer better crew was manning the walls.

Its seems to me, however, that they're not much different. It must be something else.

Thanks Josh,

I'm beginning to notice a great deal of books and emphasis on "leadership" from seminary professors and denominatinal leaders. However, I find it lacking in certain areas:

1) The same principles of business leadership are employed in the church.

2) Churches who employ femail pastors are also riding the leadership wave and yet the leadership gurus work alongside them.

3) The primary problem in our churches is not the lack of leadership technique as much as it is a lack of supernatural power. I think the doctrinal error plagueing much of modern Christianity is much of the problem. When the gospel is not proclaimed accurately, the power is diminished and the effectiveness is lost.

It seems to me that we need more power from on high than we need principles of leadership and conflict management techniques.
